What is Giving Tuesday?
GivingTuesday was created in 2012 and is simply a day that encourages people around the world to do good by giving back to their communities. In just a few short years, Giving Tuesday has turned into a global movement. People do not have to make a huge financial commitment to take part in Giving Tuesday, your gift can be as simple as helping a neighbor shovel their driveway, buying a coffee or making a financial contribution to a cause that means something to you.
Importance of giving back to the community.
Giving back to the community you live in is important for many different reasons. Giving to your community both financially and by donating your time to a specific cause can cause a ripple effect within your circle of friends and coworkers.
As you donate your time to a cause that is bigger than yourself, you’ll likely become more aware of the issues around you and how your small acts of kindness can make a huge impact on the people in need.
Talking publicly about giving back will encourage others around you to do the same, creating a domino effect of kindness around you. Talk about a cultural shift in the workplace!

How does LoveOurRoof giveback?
On GivingTuesday we asked our staff to do a simple giving act and they came up with some amazing and simple ways to make an impact on people around them.
Shon was creative with his form of giving back, he purchased movie tickets for 20 people waiting in line. This allowed families to have a fun night out together, while relieving the financial burden of getting out of the house.
Bob didn’t spend a single penny to make a huge impact in his community, he went down to a local TV station and spent time answering calls for the Children’s Miracle Network! So cool!
Traci was making a stop and noticed a busy lady trying to hurry and get lunch during her break time, and she picked up the bill!
Other team members donated blankets to the homeless, volunteered to clean up local businesses and simply bought coffee for unexpecting people. The smiles on the faces were bright this GivingTuesday!
Giveback year round
GivingTuesday is a huge day of generosity across the entire world, however you can make an impact all year around.
ShareOmaha has made giving back so simple! They have more than 400 nonprofits in the Omaha area that are looking for support, more than 500 opportunities to donate your time, and 1500 products that local nonprofits are in need of.
The United Way also has a list of Holiday Helper needs, which include family friendly opportunities. The Red Cross, Open Door Mission, and Food Bank for the Heartland are also places in need of extra help over the holidays.
